All houses and buildings fronting on any of the public streets and avenues in the City of Abilene shall be numbered as hereinafter provided.
Houses and buildings shall be numbered according to the following system:
(a) For streets running north and south, First Street shall be the dividing line, numbering north and south therefrom allowing one hundred (100) numbers for each block, commencing with the number one hundred (100) north and south from First Street. Even numbers shall be on the west side and odd numbers on the east side of all streets north of First Street. Even numbers shall be on the east side and odd numbers on the west side of all streets south of First Street.
(b) For streets running east and west, Buckeye Street shall be the dividing line, numbering east and west therefrom allowing one hundred (100) numbers for each block, commencing with number one hundred (100) east and west of Buckeye Street. Even numbers shall be on the north side and odd numbers on the south side of all streets west of Buckeye Street. Even numbers shall be on the south side and odd numbers on the north side of all streets east of Buckeye Street.
The Chief Building Official in cooperation with the City Manager may establish such exceptions to the numbering system described in this article as may be necessary by the irregular routing of any streets and avenues within the city.
The figure of each number shall be not less than two inches (2”) in height and shall be legible and conspicuously placed on the front of each house or building. All houses or buildings hereafter erected fronting on any of the streets or avenues of the city shall be numbered by the owner, occupant or agent of the owner as provided in this article within thirty (30) days after the same shall have been completed.
Any owner, occupant or
agent refusing or neglecting to number a house or building within the time
specified in this article or shall number or attempt to number any house or
building not in conformity with this article shall, upon conviction thereof, be
fined as prescribed in chapter 1 “General Penalty” and amendments thereto.
